One of my favourite things are glaciers. I love them; I think they are fascinating and I am already sad for the day when some of them are gone. Many glaciers I have seen over the last few years are retreating at an unhealthy rate and while anti-global warming arguers say that it’s just part of the natural cycle of the world (and maybe it is; I stay out of arguments like these), it’s still jarring to see a glacier one year and then a year later, you can see the reduction. South Sawyer glacier, in Tracy Arm, Southeast Alaska, is like this. I personally have seen the retreat over four years and I was continuously amazed each time we went back after being away for the winter at how far it had gone. If you want more information on glacier, ice fields, glacial retreat and the like, you can check out the USGS or the Extreme Ice Survey, the guys behind the emmy-nominated Chasing Ice documentary (which you should watch if you haven’t seen it.)
anyway: pictures of glaciers. All photos in this post were taken by me and may not be used with my written permission.
