If I’m taking an overnight flight or really even a flight that’s more than thirty minutes, I like to be in the window seat. That hasn’t always been the case — I used to always sit in the aisle seat.
That all changed once I started travelling solo. Why was I sitting in the middle of the airplane when I could sit near a window that looked out on to the rest of the world?! There is something so amazing about the window seat. On any given flight across the Continental US, you’re flying over at least two states, sometimes seven or more, and all of those states are different.
I’ve seen incredible cityscapes, soaring mountain peaks, arctic deserts, cerulean blue seas, paradisaical islands, deep canyons, and serene green hills, all from the air. Ages ago, I started making a file on my computer called “from the air” and only recently decided to purge it by posting the best of the best here.
Sometimes you have incredible views of cities.
Other times you have amazing views of the coast.
Sometimes you have amazing views of the mountains.
Sometimes you see the coolest clouds.
Sometimes you see gorgeous islands.
Sometimes you get the best sunrises.
Or moonrises.
Sometimes you see beautiful blue glaciers.
Other times you see red rocks.
Sometimes you see vast estuaries/salt flats/canyon rivers.
