{i’ll be posting my ireland journal in it’s entirety for the next few days. if you haven’t had a chance to view the images, check that posting out here. i’ll also be posting my polaroid images when i get them scanned into my computer}
“landed early today, and made it out of security/customs in good time! we had a problem with the rental car – aka they didn’t have the right size one – so we waited an extra hour to get one. once in, we headed to limerick to the tesco – crackers + cheese + tampons – and then onward to youghal.
i slept a little in the car but when we got to youghal, mom thought it was best if we ate and walked around. so we had soup at a little coffeeshop they liked last year and then went wandering.
jess and i ended up walking all the way to the lighthouse and back. i had forgotten that the old town and the beach are not right near each other. i did get some good photos though – lots of rocky outcroppings on the cliffs to the beach.
gma found the library so we caught up with them in there, looking at old photos of the town. we – jess and i – decided to walk to the abbey and mom + gma said they would drive and meet us. we wound our way there, took some photos and began to wander back. so far…and i write this from the b+b… no sign of them! i called and texted mom, but i’ve been looking and listening out the window and i don’t think they’re back. if more time goes by i may go looking for them!
i’m having a fun time to far. thank god jess is here though, because i’d be going crazy with just mom + gma! {ed. note: sorry mom!}
i’m mostly tired and my plan is to find a good pub with music, have some food + beer and then come back early and pass out. i would like to get up early and go for a walk if the weather gets better – i am sopping wet from the walk today.
youghal is bigger than i remember… maybe it was because we didn’t have a car this time (to get around the town centre) or because last time we didn’t stay in youghal so we didn’t see the whole thing…
10pm. we went to dinner at the red store – a pub around the corner from the b+b. it was full of rugby fans watching the heineken cup finals and we chatted with a few local girls about the match. jess ordered a guinness – i joked with her that it was her first ever “legal” drink – and she didn’t get carded {ed. note: neither of us got carded the entire trip… and i was told i looked like i was 17}.
after dinner, we were ecstatic to see blue sky, so jess, mom and i went for a long walk back to the beach. i took my polaroid this time but the photos didn’t turn out at all. i need to research the film to see what i did wrong in the developing. it was really windy by the time we got to the lighthouse but we soldiered on and spent ten minutes or so on the “boardwalk” (i use ” because it’s cement, and not really a true boardwalk). the tide was in, so everywhere that jess and i had walked today was under water.
i am hoping to get up early tomorrow to walk and maybe take some photos. we’ll see, since i haven’t truly slept since thursday night.“
